Coach's Corner: Summer Passing League (Read More)

Hey it truly is a great day to be a Bulldog! Two Colors, One Voice!

Boy we got young in a hurry and we saw this at the first passing league and big man competition of the year....but fear not Bulldog fans. We are young but talented! Although we went 1-4 in the Universal Athletics Tournament, there are some really great points of interest:

· -We have a great competition going at QB, with Isaiah Ellis and Brian Hicks II duking it out for that pivotal position.

·

· -We have some really dynamic recievers back on offense and the addition of William Jeter, a 6-3 circus performer, kidding he made some really amazing catches on Saturday.

·

· -The return of Tyler Nance on both offense and defense is a huge impact for this the 2015 team.

·

· -I would be remiss, if I didnt mention Sam Michel, Joe Florez, and Demarco Jackson doing their best to keep the Dogs in contests....

·

However the key to "passing league" is that its a pass and it must include a catch...we just didnt make the catches expected of a passing team. Fear not Bulldog Fanatics, I am just going to say that our good Dr. Andersen has been checking his crystal ball, and what is this? Why there may be a running game in there somewhere....Now, if I can just get ol' Coach Pinnick to dial up some runs behind that group of Offensive and Defensive Linemen who took 10th place out of 25 teams in the Big Man Competition...There is size and strength in the line this year, minus Ryan Burkard who was invited to the University of Arizona camp on Saturday, the Dogs got behind the their leader senior Center, Brenden Wolf, and placed in the top 10 in all events except the Tug-O-War.

So this week we continue to work in the weight room. It appears that the schedule will be goup A at 3:45, group B at 4:35, and the freshmen coming in at 5:00 for stretch. The first two groups head to the track after their workout and get a little faster with Coach Mauzy (who returns to the Bulldog Coaching staff full time as the speed and strength coach as well as coaching some RB play also.

The Bulldogs host the 7 on 7 at Goldwater on Wednesday, with Greenway, North, and our friends from up north, SDO. Should be a great opportunity to get better.

Saturday the Skills and the Big Men head up to Northern Arizona University to battle for the Ax Trophy. We will meet at BGHS at 5:30 am and hope to leave by 5:45 am so we can stretch our legs before the first contest at 9 am. Parents please if you can send a few dollars along with your athlete so for snacks or heck just send snacks, I personally look for the Welch's fruit snacks, so you have been warned....lol, j/k right Sam Michel?

The event starts at 9 am, and the first tournament game will start at 2 pm, so the earliest we will be back is 5 pm and hopefully much later. Parents are expected to come and support the team if possible and if you can, throw a couple extra Bulldogs in your vehicle so we can get everyone up to Flagstaff and at the very least enjoy the great weather....BRING A SWEATSHIRT AND SUNSCREEN.

If you have questions please dont hesitate to call my voicemail and get in line with a response time right around 72 hours...no really I will get right back to you and if you have not signed up for the remind 101 system yet, please do so...

Thanks

Go Dogs!

Coach Metcalf
